Organizing your Translations

 

If you are translating a lot of documents for several clients, it could be wise to build a structure that keeps track of the translated documents.

 

Here are some guidelines on how to do this.

 

 

Method 1: Basic Method

 

Create a folder called "Projects" on your hard disk.  Create a folder for each project.  In this "project" folder, create an "original" and a "translated" folder.  You can also add a "unload" folder to save the TS2000 Project.

    Projects

       Project Name 1

          original

               document1.rtf

               document2.ppt

          translated

               document1.rtf

               document2.ppt

          unload

               project name 1.cpr

       Project Name 2

               project name 2.cpr

Method 2: Extended Method

 

Create a folder called "Projects" on your hard disk.  

Create a folder for each client.

In the client folder, create a folder for each project.  In this "project" folder, create an "original" and a "translated" folder.  You can also add a "unload" folder to save the TS2000 Project.

Method 3: Advanced Method

 

This method can be used when:

- you have to do very large translations, and you will have to cut the project 

  into pieces 

ex. a part will be translated by in-house translators and another part will be translated by free-lancers.

- if you want to split up your translations into categories

ex. Client is Toyota, with the following categories:

- Carina E

- Avensis

- Corolla

- Celica

- ...

Create a folder called "Projects" on your hard disk.  

Create a folder for each client.

In the client folder, create a "master project" (or category) folder.

In the "master project" folder, create a folder for each project.  In this "project" folder, create an "original" and a "translated" folder.  You can also add a "unload" folder to save the TS2000 Project.

Extra Tips

 

Choose the same name for the project in your structure and in TRANS Suite 2000.  This will enable you to organize your projects easier.

 

It is advisable to include a date in your Project Name, but please remind that you do not use the "/","\","+","-" sign in folder or file names.

 

ex. Project Name 01042000

     

     So this would be a project called "Project Name", created 1 April 2000.
